EO Escape Rooms: Scary Tale

Although horror games aren't usually my thing, I can say I bravely ventured into this one. While I may not have been the most useful player, there were some truly lovely moments throughout. The theme is dark and macabre, reminiscent of a collaboration between the Brothers Grimm and a certain well-known American figure with a famous mouse, offering a creepy or alternative twist on their work. It was a real delight to play, and I encountered some unique elements I've not seen before in a game room.

The game does feature jump scares, but they come in the form of mechanical surprises—which you trigger yourself unknowingly (without spoiling anything, hopefully this reassures potential players). As I had anticipated the typical jump scares with witches screaming or loud sound effects, but this game doesn't rely on those. 

It's a fun experience for anyone to try and could be a great introduction for those interested in horror-themed rooms. It's not likely to leave you terrified, but it does an excellent job of building suspense in a delightful way. A truly unique and fun game!

Scary Tale was awesome  and is still in our top five rooms - we loved it with its suitably creepy dark/atmospheric theming. There’s a lot in this room with a combination of well placed tech and padlocks and puzzles that just make sense. We escaped as an experienced two with time to spare, but as with all the rooms at EO you get a lot for your money and inexperienced players might benefit from having three+ in the room. Recommended.

Wow, amazing room , kodi was the best host she was informative and fun, the room was the right amount of challenge, fun and scary. Definitely worth a play. Another massine thank you to Kodi to making this game Fantastic 🥰

I was nervous going into this, having always avoided 'scary/creepy/horror' rooms, and having one bad experience in the past, I was apprehensive, but I didn't need to be. The hosting was respectful, no gratuitous jumpscares or distractions, so you were free to get on with the puzzle solving without too much fear.  A great room in its own right, with great theming and hosting. 

We can't fault the games at EO - this wasn't the first one we played, and there's a reason we came back. As always, superb hosting from Kelly and it was great to have a chat about her experiences. Scary Tale has been well made, a variety of interesting puzzles and incredibly well decorated. Great for enthusiasts and beginners alike!

From the moment the game starts, you know things are going to be out of the ordinary. A grimm twist on classic fairytales, with really smart use of the set & puzzles to bring the stories to life. 

Scare-wise, a few creepy elements and one or two jump-scares, so don't let the scariness put you off of this great room. 

As always, great concept and execution, and great hosting from EO. 

Scary Tale escape room at EO Escape was super fun! The room's design made it feel like we were in a magical story, and the puzzles were like cool challenges from a fairy tale. Our game master, Kelly, was awesome and helped us with hints in a fun way. She made the whole adventure more exciting. The puzzles were really fun, and when we solved the last one, it felt like a magical ending to our fairy tale journey. Definitely recommend!

This was my first room as a duo and it was still challenging yet not too challenging but with an overriding level of fun. All of EO's rooms are incredible and Kelly the GM makes the experience that bit better. The room had a few jumpscares (or maybe that was me being a tad jumpy 😂) but a beautiful looking room and yet again I was blown away by the time and effort put into the style and play of the room

Very unique puzzles! Have guaranteed enjoyment and lots of laughs. All of my friends enjoyed it. 

Really unique from the very start with an element I’d never seen before in 170+ games. 

Excellent theming with some funny jump scares throughout. 

TONNES of puzzles to get through (observation, logic, physical etc. ) so really challenging as a 2. We took a bit of time (purely us not the game) to get going in this one and so needed the bonus token once we’d unlocked it. 

The only thing stopping the full 5* for me is that locks needed a bit more signposting. There was a few times where we had a 4 digit code and multiple locks to try it in. EDIT - We returned to EO and Kelly was very pleased to say that this feedback has been actioned. So cool to see a company that genuinely cares about the player experience and wants to make their games as good as possible!

All in all another exceptional game from EO- GO PLAY!

We returned to EO and played scary tale as a 5, the room was packed full of puzzles and there was a lot for everyone to be getting on with. The host Kelly was brilliant as usual. The room is beautifully themed and a lot of fun! 

2nd game of our 2nd visit to EO and we were excited for this after playing the previous 3 games and it did not disappoint! An ingenuous way to start a room that we’ve not experienced before and the surprises didn’t end there!  Once we were in it was go time with a great mix of puzzles and more beautiful decor in the room! If you’re a total wimp like my partner is then don’t think twice before playing this game you won’t want to miss it! My partner also uses a walking stick and I cannot say enough about how helpful Kelly was with making the games accessible with anything she could possibly do to give us the best experience possible! Please please visit EO if you haven’t yet! 

After much deliberation, this came out as my favourite of all the EO rooms. Its the wonderful theming of the decor and puzzles, both inside and outside the room,  and the well-timed 'wow' moments throughout the game that elevated this game over the others. The brothers Grimm would be proud! 

One of favourite first puzzles to date - creatively used their space well.

The ambiance in this room was well cultivated for the right balance of eerie and adventurous. The story is unique and well written. The puzzles fit the story well and the room has a satisfying amount of jump scares! 

The theme is carried out really well throughout this room. There is plenty for a team of Five to do. Everything flowed nicely throughout the game. 

If you go down to the woods today indeed..  This was our final game here and it was a great way to end, however, the first puzzle featured something I've only seen done once before at a chain and this was how you entered the game.  Once in full flow you have a dense puzzle rich environment to go at, there is a lot to do and the room isn't huge.  There a couple of jump scares (apparently my exclamation at one point was heard in the car park) but this is not a scary room.  Humour is prevalent throughout and there are some great a-ha moments when you finally crack some of the puzzles.  Brilliant.

From the moment the game started, we knew we were in for something different here! We've been thoroughly impressed with all of EO's rooms so far and Scary Tale is no exception. From the set dressing to the sheer density of thematic puzzles, everything makes sense and ties together to make an intense story-driven experience. It was our first "scary" room and I'd describe it as more "spooky" than horror as it keeps things fairly light (Brothers Grimm type fairy tale), but there are some jumps and hair-raising moments (which I loved!). The room is not just a work of art but also extremely well designed - delivering a remarkable range of challenges and experiences in a relatively small space (which definitely adds to the experience). Expect non-linearity, teamwork, and a little bit of crawling. Our GM Kelly did a great job of guiding us through, and if you're after a spooky challenge I highly recommend this room!

With just enough Boo for your Buck, scary tale lands itself as yet another masterpiece from EO. 

Lovely theming, great puzzles which as always never ceased to flow as expected. 

If you go down to the woods (EO) today, you'd better not go do one room alone!
