Clockwork Escapes Telford: The Legend of Foole’s Gold

Another fun room - very dark at the start, but I guess that’s part of the vibe and makes things run a bit slower so you don’t go speeding through! Some really impressive sets and features too! Played as a 2 but would have benefitted from a third person, as we only just got out in time and missed a certain part of the room!

Brilliant game, really well themed with lots of surprises! Some unique things I’ve never seen in an escape room before, can’t wait for more rooms to be built here! 

The set is really impressive and the game is too. Some great tech and puzzles and I personally love the added collecting part of an escape room. However the hosting is quite unique. The character of The Professor can easily get on your nerves and we had a lot of unwanted communication from him through the walkie-talkie even though we managed to get all the items needed, lots of gold and with plenty of time remaining. 

I have a love hate relationship with Clockwork Escapes. This room is brilliant and a different concept on the traditional escape room where instead you have to collect gold and then escape in time.  Be warned though, the mine itself is very dark.

The GM at Clockwork Escapes is a character called the Professor. He is quite grouchy and above it all and to begin with we found him quite funny. However, we did all 3 rooms in one day at by the end of the 3rd room we felt quite demotivated and just wanted to leave. He never broke character which on one hand is very impressive but in this room, we got one of the highest scores that had been achieved and found a crystal which only 10 other groups had ever found but it just fell flat because the GM was like 'hmmm oh well, onto the next room'. 

I think if you did just one room at a time, you'd probably quite enjoy the quirky professor and find him funny but 3 hours of him back to back belittling us when we asked for a clue was enough for a lifetime!

All in all this room is excellent and I would definitely recommend to other groups.

We really enjoyed that there was a different points system other than time. Our host did incredibly, especially considering he had to run 2 rooms in tandem. They did well to have a variety of puzzles as well as a good atmosphere. Would definitely recommend! 

Such a unique mechanic for the game, a thoroughly great game!

Absolutely brilliant! Great physical puzzles and the concept of collecting gold and escaping really works. It's dark in the mine but it only adds to the atmosphere! Great hosting from the moment we walked in.

This is just a top class escape room.

This was a fantastic experience! From the moment you are in the room you are immersed, and from there it just keeps expanding. Very original, the practical effects and decor of this room are on a par with, if not exceeding Viking at Extremescape. A few really unexpected turns and surprises, we would be completing one puzzle and genuinely be unsure what we were about to put into motion.

An added bonus of this room is that as you are collecting gold AS WELL  as trying to solve puzzles and try to escape, you can finish before you have completed EVERYTHING - therefore our host didn’t let us out when we enabled escape, but instead encouraged us to search high and low for every last shiny piece.

Again, brilliant hosting here, the one criticism is that it was rather dark to start with in the mine, but your eyes do adjust in time. We both came out genuinely gutted it was all over.

One of our fa our it’s rooms we have played due to the mechanics of the room.

This isn’t a spoiler as you’re too in the briefing, however this room does not require you to exit as quickly as possible, although that certainly helps, however your mission is to collect as much gold as possible, and certain items will give you multipliers. 

There is a fair bit to do in this room, it’s rather dark and there’s the impending sense of urgency to collect as much as possible. 

Some great puzzles and a rather physical room too. We loved it… but as a word of warning… wear old clothes. You will get dirty in the mine
