Extremescape: Pirate Ship

This was our least favourite out of the four rooms but there is no way you would know it's 10 years old. There's no sign of wear and tear and the puzzles are very current. However, there was a maths puzzle that was very difficult and took us over 10 mins to try and solve (we needed a clue in the end) - we really weren't fans of this!

This was our least favourite room of the 3 we did at Extremescape but although we found a couple of the puzzles frustrating you could tell alot of effort had been put into this room.  Although this room was over 10 years old at the time of playing it still has a great production value. 

Our 2nd visit to Extremescape and we was just as impressed with the pirate ship as we were with the viking room. The hosts are excellent and the rooms are very well themed. To say this room Is 10 years old it doesn't show it. Some clever details and puzzles to be solved. 

Didn't feel the magic with this room as did with Vikings - Felt like a very starty-stop game. Got there eventually.. Also adding the wheel was a bit of a choice, makes the game frustrating. 

This is a super pirate room but we did this on the back of two other rooms and forgot that we had eyes... A great offering from Extremescape, this is their oldest room and while we didn't enjoy the gameplay as much as The Lost Tomb, there are a lot of puzzles and we had a good time in here.

Still feels fresh despite being their oldest room. Some tricky puzzles but very enjoyable.

We found this the most difficult of the 3 games, we didn’t click with it. It is a really good game, with brilliant hosts and a variety of puzzles.

Fantastic game, especially considering it's over 8 years old. Set is wonderful and the puzzles are great as well

Gorgeous set, some unique puzzles and great use of tech. Took us a while to get going but that's because we're objectively bad at searching.

This company gets a lot of love from players which is why we visited.

The pirate game is my favourite of the 3 and the first one that we played

 Its probably the easiest game here and it has a lot of puzzles that were fairly unique at the time of it being built. 

A tech puzzles didn't work but the more manual puzzles made up for this failing.

Another fab room from Extremescape! Perfect theming and we loved the story at the start, it really set the scene. We found this one a little easier than the other 2, but enjoyed it still!

Again, a fantastic immersive experience at Extremescape. The puzzles were fun and thought-provoking, decor was incredible, and the hosts were great. Only thing is with it being a 90 minute room, when we escaped with 43 mins left, we thought there was going to be more! That’s down to our own assumptions though. Top 5 room, don’t miss it!

Extremescape is such a lovely escape room company, family owned and created in their house, the owners Graham, Jess and their son are the proud hosts of this fabulous location. We escaped from the Pirate Ship in just over 70 minutes with a team of 4 Escapists. We loved the fact that the escape time limit was 90 minutes, it makes the experience much more immersive and enjoyable. Speaking of immersion, the Pirate Ship is an example to follow with spot on décor and props, SFX, music and puzzles really respecting the piraty theme. We loved the fact that the clues were given by the voice of a pirate or a parrot, never breaking the experience. One thing that Extremescape does well that I don't often see in escape rooms is the introduction room where you have the story told to you before entering the room, helping building up the excitement until the doors open! The Pirate Ship is a really clever room with several surprises along the way. We also liked the fact that to be on the leaderboard, the game is giving you the opportunity to find two gold coins hidden in the room to use for clues. One gold coin in the money jar means one clue, so it ingeniously gives you the feeling that you are in charge of the progression of the room. The gameplay of the game is partly linear, one puzzle means one solution to a padlock which somehow gives you directions on how to proceed in this quite large room. We often got stuck on puzzles that we couldn't yet solve despite thinking that we had everything we needed but we were just focusing on the wrong puzzles. The difficulty would probably be quite high for beginners who are not used to escape rooms but definitely really enjoyable for experienced players. One of the puzzles was a math riddle which was pretty tricky to solve if you don't have a math head in your crew, luckily we had two of them otherwise we could easily have been stuck on that one for quite a while. 🙂 After your escape, you also receive a printed picture of your Escape, it's a really nice touch! The Pirate Ship is a great room and you will be stunned by its immersion and the intelligence of the puzzles. Highly recommend!

Woah, this room left me feeling out of breath.

There is a fair bit to do in this room and all perfectly akin with the theming. 

Let me start with the reason this room lost a star from me. I actually deducted half a star for 2 separate things (but don't ever let this put you off playing, you still MUST)

- There were alot of padlocks in the room with little signposting as to which lock you had just solved so there was alot of trial and error which naturally took a bit of time

-  Some of the puzzles were a little ambiguous. Not in the sense of how to solve them, but how to execute them. For example, if you're playing a game of monopoly, you are shown which way round the board rather than being left to guess. Again, this was only a minor frustration as it just meant a little more trial and error

Now on to why I say i was out of breath. Towards the end (I don't recall when it happened but I remember the feeling of it), the music and soundtrack was ramped up considerably, creating a widespread panic through our team and motivated us to push on harder and faster. a great little touch but it really added to the experience. 

Do no miss this game, give it a go

Took a little drive out to this room, having read some amazing reviews and because the rooms are 75 or 90 mins! We went with Vikings as it is recommended to do this one first. The setting is fantastic, you really do feel like you are on a ship! Really tough puzzles and help has to be earned too!  Really looking forward to coming back here again soon
