A room that was severly hindered by its building and location. It wasn't immersive enough to fully enjoy the content and dive deep into the puzzles. More than I've ever played before, you could just tell it was simply posters and props in an old corporate waiting room (and potentially bathroom). This also wasn't helped by the lack of room music & subsequently being able to hear the hosts in a room across the hall.
There were some challenging puzzles and most were enjoyable but some required further explanation to understand their inclusion.
Slightly disappointing compared to how good LockedIn's Leeds counterpart is.
One for fans of musicals! Apart from one sticky padlock and one point where we thought we had completed, only to have to reset (our fault, not the room!) We enjoyed most of the puzzles in this room, and there are plenty to complete.
This could be a great room with a few changes.
Family friendly room a good soundtrack and a chance to be a pretty good room, but felt like things were just randomly thrown together, its non linear which to me always suggests you can't be bothered to think of a flow of the room, and one REALLY frustrating puzzle at the end that didn't fit the theming, and was eventually told how to cheat it (whats the point then?).
Like I say, chance to be a good room, but felt a bit 'meh' after playing it. My opinion of course.
Hosts and GM’s great….
I’m a theatre nerd and the theming of the room excited me before gameplay. However, I’ve been in hundreds of dressing rooms in my time and not once have a seen electrical props similar to the ones you see in this room.
It’s fun to complete don’t get me wrong (even though we were promoted to cheat it) but do they belong in the setting your supposed to believe you’re in? Nah, complete immersion breaker for me.
Lovely hosts at Locked In York and some enjoyable rooms. Caught in the Act really appealed to us, as we love theatre - there are lots of theatrical references in here which we really liked. The final puzzle is tricky but perseverance really helped us out and we had a great time escaping!
Plight of the Thespians
Two of my favourite games have been provided by Locked In Leeds, and so I was very excited when they opened up a York branch!
Story
You’re a group of actors locked in the dressing room, and the show is an hour from starting. Quirky? Yes. Believable? Not really…
Puzzles
Uncomplicated, with apt nods to musicals. I didn’t really get the irrelevant film references, though. The final puzzle, a practical challenge, was far too difficult. We were encouraged by our Game Operator to cheat, which made for a dissatisfying ending.
Mise-en-scène
No where near as breath-taking as Leeds, sadly. This was just a room with wigs thrown in.
Final Comments
We had a laugh, but, from an experienced escapee’s point of view, this poor performance of a room deserves the hook.
