Elderly Escape Artist

Both of us thoroughly enjoyed this room, more so than the higher rated (in the UK Escape Room Awards) room at the venue which was the reason for our visit!

The room is cleverly put together with some genuinely unexpected delights and puzzles not seen before. An unusual premise with a lovely story, not too heavy on locks and searching and signposted well. Great hosting from Ash.

This is an incredibly well built room, the theming is really well thought out and the puzzles are very fitting to the story. Some of the puzzles were extremely clever!  It is obvious why this room came in 7th in the top UK rooms voting, it really is a masterpiece of building.  Hosting was superb, very friendly and chatty just as we like.

We've played a few 90 minute rooms before but this room had so many long puzzles (to us!) that by the time we ran out of time we still had a long way to go. Interestingly another couple played the room before us and also failed even though they too were experienced escape room enthusiasts.  Our lovely GM allowed us to finish the room even though we were 12 minutes over the time.

I think it was a reflection of our age and younger, more energetic 😂 escapers may love the packed nature of this room.

As a side note, it was a shame that the exit to the game is passed on the way to the entrance. It gives away the ending which should have been a lovely surprise!! Maybe put a screen around until the group is in the room, just a thought!

I wasn't particularly keen on doing this room, partly due to the split start and partly as the theme isn't one of my favourites.  I am so glad we did it!

Firstly the theming is bang on point, amazing attention to detail in all areas of the room. We thoroughly enjoyed the interaction with the clue system, it made us laugh the whole way through. A very unexpected and satisfying ending with a real heart rate raiser of a finale.

Whilst it is the oldest room at Escapologic it certainly has aged extremely well. A great fun game with fantastic theming and quite a few puzzles we weren't expecting and hadn't seen before. Genuinely well worth doing and travelling for. A real treat for the eyes!

We were delighted to get Willow as our GM again after meeting him on a previous visit and loving his style and he didn't disappoint. Great hosting with a fab sense of humour.

This room utilises the same space as the old Sherlock - Initiation game that was here under the Escape Lincoln banner. It has been completely redone and plays as a great fun room, nicely linear so I wouldn't recommend for a large group. It's not going to tax an expert team but it's definitely a fun room and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Big thanks to Ashley (apologies if I've spelt your name wrong!) our GM who was absolutely delightful ⭐

Thoroughly enjoyed this room and this was in no small part due to the great hosting skills of Molly (or Clown!). A fun range of fairground games with more expected puzzles as well with the added bonus of a hint system of a live actor 'scary' clown coming in to silently assist. All credit to Molly for the top quality acting, we laughed so much. Wouldn't recommend the room if you don't like clowns though. Well worth doing.

A great storyline in that you're trying to get into and seal yourself into the safety of the bunker before the apocalypse. Very well built and themed.  We enjoyed it a lot!

A lovely room with some clever puzzles that are on theme throughout.  Clear objective and a satisfying finish with some lovely touches. A genuinely fun room with great hosting.

Played in the space that was previously Overthrone by Escape Lincoln. Whilst it is in the same space the room has been pretty much completely revamped and is good fun. Nothing to trouble seasoned escapers but we thoroughly enjoyed it. Shout out to the lovely GM, Liam, who was enthusiastic and bang on his game.

A decent room from Game Saints. This used to be Magic Emporium when the venue was Escape Lincoln and the basic space remains the same. However, the game has been pretty much completely updated, some areas are re-used for different purposes and it makes for a fun room. Relatively easy for experienced players but we thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you to Jordan for being a lovely GM.

We really struggled with this room. There is a very limited amount of time in each part of the room and this room really lends itself to larger groups or very clever couples!  There is a lot to do and failure to complete each part means less information for the final room. That said theming is impressive as we have come to expect from Break Escape.

A huge thank you to the all round good egg that is Ant, our GM. He has definitely mastered the art of placating frustrated roomers and his help and sense of humour definitely saved the day for us. He's a star ⭐

We had avoided Escapologic after a poor experience there previously but were lured back by the desire to see if Curio lived up to the hype. It really does!

Such a good room that even knowing it's USP doesn't detract from the experience at all. Beautifully themed with a great range of hands-on puzzles that Mr EEA really loved. Great clue system that really fitted in well with the room.

As others have stated it's not built for really tall people and if you have motion sickness maybe avoid it.

Big thanks to the GM (Laiken) who was utterly brilliant at helping us out when needed and restoring our faith in the venue! This is a must play for enthusiasts.

A beautifully themed room.  I much preferred the first half of the game to the second, we seemed to lose our thread in the second half but maybe that was just us being old and on our third room of the day! Lots to love in the decor especially for us as it was our era! Ending good but not as exciting as I had been expecting after reading other reviews. Great hosting from Sam.

A fun room with a thoroughly enjoyable clue system! 

An unusual but extremely well executed theme! Totally loved the whole set up, some novel puzzles that really fit the theme well. A bit of crawling required (as pointed out in the room description online) but nothing that us old folk couldn't manage. Definitely the most fun room we have done in a long while and great hosting from Sam.

A thoroughly enjoyable romp through the Titanic with a great set build and appropriate puzzles for the genre. A bit of clambering around involved which was fun for us oldies 😂 and great use of smoke/audio to enhance the immersion.

Great hosting from Mike and we're looking forward to going back to play the other rooms very soon.

Really can't put into words how good this room is. The magic is seamlessly woven into the room and Tom is such a lovely person to host you. His skills will leave you in awe. Without the magic this would still be an excellent room but the addition of the live magic really lifts this room onto another level.

We are still stunned by the magic! Go and play this room if you can get a slot, it's well worth travelling for and definitely a must-do, bucket list room. We absolutely loved it.

A great fun room themed around the current pantomime at the Theatre Royal Lincoln.

Some laugh out loud moments coupled with a solid story and clear signposting make it fun for all members of the family. Hosting was excellent as we would expect from this venue.

Well worth a visit.

Great fun room for all of the family. Enough of the harder puzzles to keep enthusiasts busy but a pretty room as well to entertain kids. 

If you only play one Christmas room this year, make it this one. The hosting is key to this room and it was both hysterically funny and brilliantly done (thank you Ant!). As two elderly folk we were almost crying laughing most of the time. This game is very very suitable for families, the side game of collecting candy canes and the elf's mischievous methods of slowing you down are so much fun. 

In terms of the actual puzzles, a great variety as expected from Break Escape and a finale that has to be done, children will love it and anyone with an ounce of Christmas joy will too.

Wow, there is a lot to do in this room! We were glad that as a twosome we booked the 90 minute version of the room as we would have been gutted to run out of time and miss some of the amazing puzzles. This is a blast of a room, we'd been putting it off due to a not great experience at the venue under it's previous name and I'm so glad we went back. Break Escape are a fantastic bunch and they have elevated the experience massively. The hosting was superb (thank you Oleg!).

In terms of game play a larger group will have plenty to do, even with 90 minutes as an experienced couple we still missed a few puzzles. Vast range of puzzles that can be tackled in any order and a hugely satisfying ending. Loved this game and highly recommend it.

TTR have created a really good room here. Having played Plague (the room's predecessor) we were pleasantly surprised to find that although the space is the same the theming has been completely changed and the decor is a completely different kettle of fish.

A nice creepy vibe with some excellent, well timed jump scares. Puzzles were wide ranging with a couple that were completely new to us (always a plus when you've played quite a few games!). One in particular we had never come across and was particularly clever, all credit to Millie (our excellent GM) who I understand made it!

Hosting as usual at this venue was superb (thanks Millie) and we're looking forward to going back to do their Christmas and panto themed rooms.

This is a lovely room from start to finish. Theming is absolutely spot on with some really fun puzzles and a proper trip to Oz. Some really clever elements to this game and a lot to do for two relatively experienced players meant we were close to the wire timewise. 

Great hosting from Chris who pointed us in the right direction without being obvious when we were floundering and made us laugh a lot!

This really is a room worth savouring and is worth the trip!

A warm greeting set the tone for a fun outing to Pontefract. Having played the other Enigma sites we were pretty confident of a couple of good rooms here and we weren't disappointed.

Theming is excellent with a really appropriate soundtrack that builds the tension. Good variety of puzzles and one in particular near the end that really fits the theme brilliantly!

Hosting (from Chris) was great fun, clever with the clues and didn't let us get bogged down which is a habit of ours.

Definitely worth a trip to Pontefract.

Theming of this room is excellent - decor is absolutely spot on with loads of nods to the film that delighted me as a Stephen King enthusiast. Puzzles were varied and satisfying (one annoyed us as we just couldn't see it but that could just be our failing, elderly eyesight!)

Hosting by the fabulous Gem was spot on as expected after our previous encounter with her earlier in the day.

Make an effort to visit these rooms, we'll definitely be back to try the other two in the not too distant future and the price is well under expected!

Thoroughly enjoyed this game - these rooms have either been totally overhauled or are in the process of being and the new management are obviously escape room enthusiasts themselves. Great hosting from Gem who was happy to chat about all things escape room and kept a watchful eye on proceedings to provide subtle clues when needed without us needing to throw a wobbly at the camera (there is no audio available to the GM).

Really well themed and good fun, definitely worth a trip to the seaside to play and an absolute steal of a price.

A lovely room that is beautifully themed with a lot of attention to detail.  A very satisfying range of puzzles both physical and mental that kept us both on the go for the whole time.  Break Escape use space creatively to provide an ever changing route through the puzzles.

I defy anyone not to enjoy this room, it's a real treat. Our GM, Ben, was superb - obviously paying keen attention to us throughout the three rooms that we did on this visit as his clueing was spot on and delivered with an appropriate dash of humour.

Break Escape are well worth a trip to either branch, can't wait until they open a new room!

We played this room back to back with Elixir Vitae and I think it is the more difficult of the two. That said there is a lot to do in this room and it would easily lend itself to a larger group than two.

Puzzles were entirely in keeping with the theme and some lovely hands on and physical puzzles to keep us entertained. Decor and theming were as good as we expect from Break Escape who clearly put a lot of hard work and thought into their room designs.

Well worth a special trip to Loughborough for any of their rooms.

First time in a western themed room and it was a goody! Theming was superb as we have come to expect from Break Escape with a wide variety of puzzles, all suiting the theme perfectly. Lots of hands on puzzles which got the my equally elderly partner very excited!

Another high expectation with Break Escape is the great hosting we have had on previous visits and our GM Ben did not let us down at all, a great sense of humour and  a distinct knack for knowing when to give us a nudge and when to leave us alone.

Having already visited the Nottingham branch we went to Loughborough purely to do their rooms and were very glad we made the trip!

This is a must play room for any enthusiast. There is a reason why it is the second highest rated room in the East Midlands at present - it's bloody awesome! (the current highest rated room is by the same company!)

The theming and storyline is incredible. I don't give a top rating lightly but this room fully deserves it. It is absolutely gorgeous. 

It has a great range of puzzles with no padlocks at all and some puzzles we had never seen before but thoroughly enjoyed.  Definitely enough to keep everyone happy in a larger team and I would wager that children would thoroughly enjoy the side quest and most of the main puzzles lend themselves well to a team effort.

I genuinely wish I could empty my brain and play this room again, the whole story was utterly lovely. Props and theming all just great.

What a lovely room! A wholly thrilling entry into the main part of the room got us old folk well over excited and we weren't disappointed with the rest of the game. Loads of great puzzles with nice, clear signposting and the most lovely room decor we had seen in a while. 

Break Escape really go the extra mile in their rooms for theming, it's tempting to stand and admire the scenery instead of getting on with the game.

Thanks to other reviewers here we didn't get bogged down in the side quests (although my elderly gentleman partner was determined to get one and did!).  Some physical (for us oldies) and great fun puzzles were a real treat.

Loved this room and the hosting from Anais was superb, definitely an excellent GM with a knack for the job!

As with all of the rooms we have played at Houdini's Nottingham, this room was absolutely made for us by the excellent GM we had, Lottie.

A beautifully built room with some great features that stood out from the crowd! We thoroughly enjoyed it although the final puzzle got us nearly to blows🤣🤣

This is an exceptional prison break room, well above the norm for this type which isn't usually my favourite theme. Some impressive theming and great, in character hosting from Lottie really made this room for us. The rooms at this branch are consistently good and well worth making the trip out of town for.

This is another solid, well planned room from Tension Twisted Realities. They bill it as their hardest room and it certainly is, we failed it miserably! The puzzles match the theme very well and it is obvious that a lot of thought has gone into the room decor.

Well worth playing especially if you like a challenge!

This is a beautifully built room with lots of places to explore and an unusual way of getting from one room to another! Theming is spot on, nothing out of place and a real sense of urgency as the time ticks by. Hosted brilliantly by our GM, an in-character Lottie who is very adept at knowing when to leave you alone and when to provide subtle hints. Truly a lovely trip through the different areas of the ship and some unusual puzzles that we hadn't seen before.

As a side note, some friends of ours played this after us and had a different GM and an altogether different, less fun experience.  I have to hand it to Lottie, she is an excellent GM and I'm sorry that our friends didn't have you!

Well worth the trip!

We played this room at 10am on a Monday morning. Huge credit to the GM (Lottie) who also plays a pivotal role in the game.  Never is it more true that a GM can make or break a game - their level of involvement in this particular game is unprecedented. I'm delighted to say that Lottie was an absolute joy - suitably creepy yet humorous, stayed wholly in character throughout and kept us on track brilliantly. Not many people would provide the level of service we received early on a Monday so huge kudos to her!!

The game is weird in a good way, never less than entertaining with some nice touches that keep to the theme well.  I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it and I'll definitely ask for Lottie when we go back to do their other rooms!

Gamesaints have got this room right! It is a totally different story and puzzles to the one that preceded it and it is a genuinely fun room with some clever head scratching puzzles! 

The room is very well themed with  puzzles that fit the context well. We didn't recognise a single puzzle from the previous incarnation.

Thoroughly worth playing and a big thank you to the great GM for hosting us.

Lots to do but even more to admire in the set dressing, very authentic and a much better take on the theme than we have seen in other rooms.

All of the rooms at Break Escape Nottingham are excellent and this is no exception. Well worth travelling to!

Another high quality build from Escapologic with a great storyline. We got seriously bogged down on one puzzle to the point of nearly throwing in the towel but were skilfully put back on track by our very astute GM, Lucy (huge thanks, you were great!). 

There is a large element of instruction following in the room and a lot of information is given at once so be warned, That said the room has a satisfyingly physical feel to it and a very satisfying ending.

It does involve at least one person working in the pitch dark and listen to the briefing at the start - we didn't pay enough attention and wasted time figuring out what should have been obvious!

A fab game, well worth playing!

Not generally a fan of Egyptian themed rooms but this was a truly good one! Some really clever puzzles and the hint system (in different phases!) was excellent and definitely something out of the ordinary.  One puzzle that stumped us for a while (just not our thing, not the fault of the room!) cost us the chance to get the final relic but some great props, clever decoration. 

My only observation is that it is quite a dark room. We had two lanterns but on the orange setting they were pretty hopeless and it was a struggle to get them to stay on the white setting as they kept turning back to orange!

Wow! Not being a Warhammer fan this room wasn't on my radar but after being convinced that I didn't need to understand Warhammer to enjoy it, our little team gave it a shot.

So glad that we did - this room is awesome in build quality and it's a next level of immersion. The puzzles (although they seemed more like tasks) were wholly appropriate to the storyline in the room with some very satisfying physical aspects to most. Loved the physicality of the room which made a fantastic change from humdrum ' logic puzzle after mental puzzle' games. Our GM was blooming brilliant (Leon, you're fabulous, please don't go anywhere!)

It is a must play if in the Nottingham area and well worth travelling to. Right up there in terms of favourite ever games for both me and Mr EEA.

This is a really lovely room! Theming is based on the current pantomime at Lincoln Theatre Royal (it's a collaboration) and features cameos from the cast adding a nice touch!  Nicely linear and beautifully themed with puzzles that really fit the theme. It's a great room for youngsters to get involved in too but we played it as a couple and loved it.

Hosting was excellent as always at this venue. Be aware that the room is only going to be available until October 2025 when it will change to a new theme according to the new panto so make sure you play it before it goes. A fab new addition to the Lincoln escape room theme especially after our last  miserable time at another venue!!

Of note is that the venue is in a converted church and  also has VR, bar, snacks and holds a variety of events every week, it really is a fab place to go!

A fun room but a lot to get through for a team of two. We felt that a lot of information was thrown at you all at once! Build quality and effects are excellent and hosting, as expected at Cave Escape, was great! There are quite a few videos throughout the game which stunt play and frustrated us. This game can be lost even if you have plenty of time left and if I'm honest I still don't know how we made the right decision to save the world.

Wow! There's a good reason why this room has become the highest scoring room in Nottingham, it's quite simply fantastic. The build quality is impressive, game play is fairly non-linear and an excellent variety of puzzles, some of which we hadn't seen before. This game provides 'a-ha' moments by the bucketful. Just when you think the game is over, more happens to shoot the adrenaline straight back up!

Hosting was fantastic (Adam), he really knows his stuff! He has hosted both our visits to Break Escape and was great on both occasions.

This genuinely is a must play for any enthusiast.

We played this room having played it's previous incarnation as Sherlock - Judgement at Escape Lincoln but were lured back by the premise of a refurb with new puzzles, theme, etc under a new management banner.

So disappointed to find that not only were the same management still in place but the room has changed very little to the point that although we had played it several years ago we still remembered most of the puzzles. If you book this expecting it to be different from the old room prepare to be let down - it's shorter than it used to be (GM told us it had been downgraded froma 4/5 to a 3/5 difficulty) and some of the pointless props have been removed but that's about it for the change.

If you really want to play it, try to book on a Wednesday when they offer a half price option because it is very over priced compared to other rooms we have played in the area.

Played this game with high hopes as had played its previous incarnation under the Escape Lincoln banner and been underwhelmed.  Publicity advised that the rooms at this location had been totally refurbed with new puzzles, theme, etc.

Not the case. Same (split) start to the game, same puzzles for the most part and same objective.  GM, whilst very pleasant, was obviously busy running all three games that were open at the time and slow to provide clues when asked for resulting in a very frustrating game and a lot of wasted time standing around. One particular puzzle stumped us for a prolonged period of time resulting in us failing and even when explained there was no logic (team mate is an engineer!). We were told that 16 other teams had failed that week and we weren't surprised. We had successfully completed the rooms previous incarnation but the lack of attentiveness on the part of the GM flunked us.

If you've played this game as Prison Break at Escape Lincoln, don't waste your money playing it again. If you really want to play it, try and book on a Wednesday and use their half price offer and you won't feel as bad!

Another minor bug bear is the lack of immersion, lots of college noise (which I guess is inevitable in a college) but we were told to tell any students entering the room through the open door to go away! 

Great hosting with a warm welcome and a sense of humour, always starts our visit off well. Top quality room with lots to do! Nice, fun side project that would keep younger team members busy. Clue system was highly entertaining and the theming/props were bang on target. Some new and very clever puzzles we hadn't seen before.

Also of note was the re-use of a previous space later in the game - this annoyed us immensely in another game at another site but was so well done here it really added to the story. 

A great fun room with plenty for beginners and experienced players to get their teeth into!

This room is an absolute joy and definitely one of my favourite rooms ever played.

The immersion is second to none - a lot of thought has gone into the theming and props and being actually in the caves adds a certain something that you just wouldn't get elsewhere. Some very clever puzzles and unique, fitting clue systems really aid the immersion.  We played as a couple and it was full on hence they recommend teams of three or more if not more experienced players.

Hosting was as brilliant as expected after our previous visit here.

A "wow" room in every sense, definitely a must play for every enthusiast.

This room is certainly worth a play before it closes mid way through August.

It is a large space and has some very clever elements especially for the technical minded - Mr EEA thoroughly enjoyed it. Lateral thinking is definitely required but failed attempts only wasted time and didn't result in frustration, the solution when found only left us with a 'DOH!' feeling.

Liked the feeling of pressure at the end with a genuine sense of urgency created.
