I'm not a huge fan of outdoor games, but this was ok
I must state upfront that our host at the Escape Room in Oxford (and the rest of the staff we encountered) were great; really friendly and helpful – and with the energy & enthusiasm of children’s tv presenters (that’s a good thing in this context).
Unfortunately, the outdoor game Time Cops was disappointing. As advertised, the required solving puzzles around the city. But unfortunately, there were several errors within the game; including incorrect direction headings (at least 45 degrees off), incorrect numeric clue to solving the final puzzle and an incorrect clue for another question that requested a name of a building, but also necessitated the inclusion of some roman numerals (that was not actually part of the name)
In addition to these logical errors, I was a little bemused when one puzzle (don’t forget we are pretending to be Time Cops saving the world from global catastrophe) was a riddle about a woman who had lost her cat.
It all felt a little bit cheap and poorly implemented (the game in general, but also the specific mistakes for the Oxford variant). I was hoping that there would be some augmented reality to add some realism to proceedings, but it was mostly just finding various destination on a map.
I’m afraid this wasn’t a thrilling afternoon’s entertainment – and felt like a bit of a waste of £60.
