Fantastic box game! There was so much going on here, we were very impressed by all of the pieces that we kept adding to the table. Stunning game that really appealed to us as it had a real feel of "Betrayal at House on the Hill" if you've ever played that. We loved the way that the game played and were immersed into the story. I would say that you need to do it as a team, as due to the length it would get very dull on your own. Felt a lot like the unlock games but with a lot more practical elements going on and more puzzle variety. Very impressive for a play-at-home game!

I'm honestly not sure why this game didn't seem to click with anyone in my group - Individually there so many cool inventive elements that I would never expect in a box game, but I think the whole thing just seemed to drag a bit. Perhaps 4 people was too many, but I also couldn't imagine sitting this and playing by myself for 3+ hours. I would definitely encourage other people to give it a go, I was /impressed/ by a lot of it, but we were honestly just bored by the sheer amount of stuff in it by the end. Even though it encourages you to split up play time, I think I would have preferred it as two or even three shorter games, with greater emphasis on story.

If you can’t tell from my gushing, the verdict is we really did have a great time playing Curse of the Dark. From the fantastically fun puzzles that consistently manage to surprise me, to the beautiful visuals (2D and 3D), to a very spooky vibe that made our board game night perfect. There were a great many “a-ha!” moments, so many I’m sure my co-players got sick of my insisting “wow thats a clever puzzle” by the end of it.
