We were constantly amazed and surprised throughout the experience—nothing went as expected, and it was fantastic in every way. The unpredictability added an extra layer of excitement, making it incredibly fun and intense. A truly cool and memorable adventure!
The authentic place (original catacombs beyond an old church) and the story-driven immersion make this experience something special, despite sometimes heavier and also more classic puzzles. Slightly better English skills are recommended!
From entry you are immersed in the world of the story, in teh setting of the church.
I did expect the set to be a little more, err, cave-y or like the Paris catacombs, but I am not saying that the set is not of a high standard.
This game has a thrilling actor interaction, some great puzzles, and a superb atmosphere.
Great experience. Clever use of actors and clue system if needed. Dramatic and very immersive. I thought the ending was unique and you need to throw yourself in completely.
The last five minutes let us down, but the rest of the experience was awesome. Definitely worth a play.
One of the best rooms we've played! You're immersed from the start with the location and the live actor with the perfect level of fear and difficulty of puzzles. Such a clever scoring system in play without you knowing, which I haven't witnessed in any other room, to determine if you're successful in your mission/escape or not. A must do escape room for every escape room lover and enthusiasts!
Our team of 6 booked the Catacombs experience last minute as we were over Amsterdam temporarily for 'work'. We didn't really know what to expect as we basically just chose this one based on the great reviews that we could find on TripAdvisor. We didn't realise it wasn't a classic escape room! Amsterdam Catacombs is way beyond what you may have tried in escape rooms before. We've done over 65+ escape rooms but first one with live actors. We screamed A LOT and were terrified at moments but we never felt unsafe or in danger so we really enjoyed our time there. The 90 minutes felt like 120 minutes as we were plunged in the story from the minute we rang the bell to get in and the host was really passionate about the room/experience and didn't rush us out of the building, in the contrary. The puzzles were not too hard, just the perfect difficulty to allow us to stay on the edge but still solve the puzzles despite being terrified. The main actor was a fabulous actor who really put us in the atmosphere. You will be always impressed by the immersive elements of the rooms, the surprises along the way, the jump scares, the clever puzzles and the impressive settings, even when you can barely see due to the smoke or the darkness. We realised only after that they rated 4th in the world of escape rooms! And as we tested the 5th on that list, we can tell the gap is big between 4th and 5th so the top 3 must be quite impressive if Amsterdam Catacombs didn't make it! We also really appreciated receiving a personalised email later on the day, with our picture and a special note, we thought it was a very nice touch! An absolute must do if you are experienced Escapists!
This is THE game to play even if you don’t like horror (like me). The set is gorgeous, actors brilliant and you will scream and laugh.
This is more of an experience than a traditional escape room. It is story-driven and the actors help create a spooky scene. It is an an actual catacomb. It was very scary at times and we liked the fact that the ending is dependent on how you progress. The actors/GM were in character from the moment we entered the property and you could tell they were really passionate about providing a top experience. We really enjoyed this one! We recommend you taking on the challenge late at night.
It’s actually been about a year and a half since I played this but it’s a remote avatar game I always talk about. I loved that we got to see a bit of Amsterdam - canals and all! So great to do escape rooms around the world and so much better when the location features in it.
I'm sure this is an amazing game in person--very atmospheric and spooky. However the translation to online is problematic. First, there is a significant time delay, which we haven't experienced with any of the other games we've played (including other ones in Europe). The use of two different platforms just didn't work that well. Also, every time there was a noise the GM whipped the camera around, which made for a very jerky feed. One of our team members had to abandon because he was getting quite nauseous. It felt like the GM was trying to sell the spookiness by not focusing on the puzzles, which we found frustrating! So this was a very cool idea, but didn't really work that well remotely.
If you haven't played the Catacombs in person then this is a must do!

If you’re going to build a horror game, doing so in an ancient crypt beneath a church is a pretty good start. Catacombs invites you to its location with an in-character email, where (after arriving on the dot, not before or after your designated time) you’re led down into the unsettling underground.
Few games have such an exquisite selection of fascinating antiquities. A genuine underground crypt is already atmospheric way beyond what most venues can hope to achieve, but they’ve taken that extr...
The Amsterdam Catacombs was perhaps ahead of its time. And while other experiences have cropped up in recent years, stealing some of its thunder, the fact remains that it is still a fantastic experience that’s worth a visit if you find yourself in Amsterdam
Logic Locks created with Amsterdam Catacombs a high quality immersive adventure, which is not a classic Escape Game. Due to the multitude of interactions and possibilities for the players to influence the story, this experience can be described as an immersive theater with Escape Game elements.
Once again, our avatar spoke and acted like a real person might, sometimes to frustrating effect. (Afterwards, my wife asked if I had gotten angry at one of my teammates. I explained I actually got upset at a character.) I had been warned about potential internet problems, but we only experienced a few glitches. Overall, not only did we have a great time, but we also reached all the winning conditions.
