Other World Escapes Portsmouth: Chipshop: The Red Herring

Chip Shop brought our total up to Ten for the number of Escape rooms we have now done and in general we enjoyed it, the decoration and overall design was aesthetically good and our host David was very pleasant and very good throughout the room and once we entered we found the puzzles a good mix of mental and skill games. 

We wouldn't say that the puzzles are overly difficult but a good difficulty and some of them were certainly original and good fun at the same time.  

The clue system works well and we had to ask for two or three when we found ourselves stuck only to realise that we didn't need the clues it was just our lack of reading exactly what was in plain sight, the only real downside to the Chip Shop is that there is a second room which isn't big enough to hold more than two people to solve the puzzles inside, our experience was that I stayed out of the room whilst my other escapists were solving the puzzles inside. There is a lot of moving to be done in the small room and I was just getting in the way rather than actually helping so I spent my time stood outside waiting for our team to solve the puzzles which put a dent in the fun of the room for myself personally. I would imagine teams larger than ours would also feel the same way and would end up swapping in and out of the room depending on who would be able to solve the puzzle, not only that but the access to the small room isn't the easiest to get in and out of.

All in all Chip Shop is fun and we enjoyed ourselves in general, not our favourite but good family fun and a successful escape to boot! Other World Games have some good rooms and we'll be back to do another one of theirs!

One of our favourite escape rooms to date!  Such a clever set up, and a perfect combination of physical, logic and observational challenges.  To avoid spoilers, there is a transition point in the room which is unlike anything we've seen before- brilliant.   Strong recommend (and this company were really passionate about escape rooms- we chatted for ages). Room 12 for us!

More difficult than expecting based on theme alone! Great theme and puzzles fit very well. Will be re-visiting for other rooms in the future! 

A unique concept and lots of fun to play. Bit searchy for us at points but our host Ethan was good fun and kept us on track. Preferred the first half - 2nd half felt a bit cramped and wasn't so sure on the story. Puzzles throughout were enjoyable and logical and I'd recommend playing, just not for a large team 

A fun well themed romp of a room for 2 people (would definitely say that the room size suits 2-3 best)! The puzzles were generally very well integrated for the theme, and we liked that this was a different and unique setting compared to the other rooms we've done. Brilliant hosting, as usual, and just enough nudges to get us over the finishing line.

Game starts off well and contained a good range of puzzles. The props are well incorporated into the room.

It all has an innocent, fun feel to it until the ending, when it gets a bit peculiar and farfetched. If they kept the storyline, like it was at the beginning, a humorous chip shop with maybe a small yet funny twist, then I would've scored it higher. 

The host and the clue system is fun, as they put a bit of humor and interact with you, which is in keeping with the "initial" theme.

In my humble opinion, if there were a few tweaks to the story and the way it ends (i.e. final third) in keeping a nice fun theme, then I would put this more to being a great room.

The name and concept of this game intrigued us to play and we wasn't let down by the Chip shop. Such a humorous room and ingenious clue system that is nostalgic and fun. The company name fits in with the storyline, it's otherworldly and definitely takes you an unexpected journey. Puzzles are linear and stick with the story and theme. An enjoyable experience

Original idea, laughed a lot in this game, loved the clue system! 

Original story and puzzles fitted in well with the theme. A couple of aspects did not seem that logical but mostly worked well, and enjoyed the ending. We had a good time and worth playing if in the area but not good enough on its own to recommend making a special trip.
