When Odin was young he desired power and knew the fastest way to reach his goal was through knowledge. Piercing his eye and hanging himself above a well at the base of Yggdrasil he stared into the pool until the runes found him worthy and presented themselves to him. This is one of the ways that magik slipped into this world.
The power of the runes has been coveted for generations and many have searched for Odin’s Well to gain power for themselves. Cormac Dunsmore - an academic rather than field expert - was sent to locate it and never returned. Decades passed and Lillian Marsh discovered an old file and came up short. I so dearly wanted to love this, especially after enjoying Sins of the Father.  And I was wowed by the components when I unpacked it.  But the gameplay was almost entirely tedious and joyless busywork.  Extracting even a single letter involved so much labor.  At the price I can't really recommend unless you absolutely love process-heavy puzzles.

Besides enjoying the narratives and puzzling our way to finding the location of the well, I felt like we just went through a history lesson on Nordic Mythology. I can't say I'm an expert at rune stone readings now but I'm definitely feel closer to their culture than before. There's a mystical energy surrounding this culture and we're happy to have experienced it through this game. Get your drinking horn out and pour yourself some Nordic inspired drinks (or just some wine would do), get into character (maybe assign reading roles) and embark on this magical journey of "The Runes of Odin".

The Runes of Odin felt like a complicated tabletop escape game… or a light alternate reality game (ARG). We were presented with a few beautiful artifacts, many documents, and just a little direction. From that point it was on us to read, analyze, and puzzle our way to answers.
