We had an awful experience here. To be clear, the game itself isn't bad - some nice puzzles, sets and a large environment but the hosting itself was terrible. On booking, you get to choose the version of the game you want to play. We always want the full version, so opted for the horror/terror version, but on playing the game, it seemed remarkably lacking in scares. We assumed that it was building to something spectacular, given the positivity lended to the game by others. Then it ended... Confused, but open to the fact that it was just a normal escape room with no actors we were then told that they had mistakenly given us the 'mystery' version. No horror. The closest we had was a voice of the creepy doll asking us if we wanted to play a game with her. Knowing what normally happens in horror games, I jokingly said 'yes, sure... How about hide and seek. You go hide and we won't look for you'.
We checked our booking and the messages to the company and indeed we had booked the horror version (and got confirmation with the fact) which would have been annoying, but rather than apologising, or owning the mistake, our host instead proceeded to tell us how good the horror version is, and how much we'd missed out. He described some scares, and how one of the effects would have been spectacular. We asked if we could see it, and he brought out the mask; we didn't get to see it theatrically.
He then proceed to shift the blame to us for the error. He claimed that he couldn't see on the system which version we had booked, so asked us 'in character' whether we wanted to play a game. My response of hide and seek was enough for him to decide to not give us the full version, and then of course he thought it was our fault. I'm sorry, but when you're preparing for being terrorised, while in the middle of a game you're in character too, and obviously never 'want' the horrors to come out. My sarcastic quip should not have been grounds to decide on what version we wanted. The right way to do it was to ask us directly, while out of character, over the intercom that we waited by for 10 minutes at the start.
After we got the blame, he then told us that he was annoyed he couldn't do the full version with us because running the 'mystery' version is boring for him. We stood there shocked.
After paying (the full price) we were told to inform his bosses of the mistake when our picture was sent through. Thinking that we may get some kind of apology there, or perhaps a discount on their new game if we returned to visit them again, we left, annoyed but prepared for forgiveness. It's been nearly a month and we haven't had a reply, so we assume they are just ignoring us and hoping we go away.
I felt like it wasn't very fair to review a game on the worst version of it, but reviews should be about the experience as a whole, and while I'm sure if you played this game properly it'd be great, the way they handled a frankly unforgivable mistake when you've travelled from another country to play a game, is not good. That's what I'm reviewing here, and that's why we left feeling like we'd wasted our time, money and choice on what game to play in a limited trip overseas.
