Great experience for experienced escapist. Very classical and a lot of focus on the puzzles which were all quite clever without being illogical.
The only peril in this one is being caught by your superiors while stealing a barrel of beer, but a lot of the puzzles are unique, hand crafted and really quite intricate when you look back on them. It's nicely period and the hosting was, as usual, top notch with someone obviously rooting for us to get finished in the time and it was incredibly close - well couldn't get much closer really!
We really liked the way the puzzles are integrated more into the theme of the room, some escape rooms are a little more padlock heavy than this one but although there are padlocks and keys, these are integrated well into the game and aren't too obtrusive.
One of the puzzles had a little wear and tear on it's printing and could have done with a bit of a refresh (circuit diagram), but on the whole this is definitely up in the list of favourites.
Had a great time playing this game – it was really good fun! The puzzles were engaging, logical, and had that perfect "kick me" moment that made everything click into place. However, what really made the experience stand out was our Games Master, David. He was absolutely brilliant. All the Games Masters throughout the day were great, but the three of us all agreed we wished we could have had him for every game. He was not only a fantastic host but also really lovely to chat with afterwards. His enthusiasm and warmth really made the experience special. Highly recommend this game – it’s a great time, especially with such an amazing host!
This is a sweet game that fondly describes a whimsical scenario at the end of WWII. There's no peril here - just good old British beer, our brave boys in the air force, and plenty of tally-ho! As always from Escape Plan: Roll Out The Barrel is full of beautiful, hand-made tactile puzzles, very well-maintained props and excellent hosting (no poor quality, laminated, or broken props here - it's a game that is made and shared with love).
Perhaps not quite as memorable as some of the other Escape Plan games, but still very enjoyable.

There are any number of games set in WW2, but I’d hazard none others that share the premise of Roll Out The Barrel: set immediately after the end of the war, you’re trying to break into the officers’ mess to get at their private stash of booze, all the better to celebrate victory. Your goal is a literal barrel, and barrels are used throughout as a motif along with the more obvious wartime decor and 1940s theming.
The escape room industry may be increasingly using prefabricated puzzle com...
For a game set during World War II… It’s surprisingly light hearted and funny! But wait, I’m getting ahead of myself. Roll Out the Barrel isn’t technically set during World War II. It’s set the day after. Your mission? Throw the best party for the troops you possibly can. Everyone knows the best parties involve obscene amounts of booze which is why three intrepid troops and myself just broke into our officer’s top secret bar cabin to steal all their barrels. It’s party time!!
