We visited Houdini’s in Thurrock to play a fairly new escape room today: Haunted Hotel. The room had the extra novelty of being situated within an actual hotel! We got out in 36 minutes 43 seconds. That’s not a brag - it just seemed to be missing an extra challenge / puzzle / room and so we felt a little disappointed when we completed it in quite a quick time (unusual for us!) There could have been more in the way of context / storyline.
It was spooky but not particularly terrifying - there was a lack of jump scares which to be fair is not everyone’s cup of tea. However, the theming and decor is brilliant and there was a general sense of unease throughout. Jake our Game Master played his role brilliantly and was suitably creepy.
Overall, this new escape room may need a bit more added to it to really hit Houdini’s high standards, but was still a good adrenaline rush.

A lot of the games in this escape room really did not make sense. Some of the puzzles seemed like they were there for the sake of it. A lot of illogical puzzles like measuring something that has nothing to do with the story or room. Also, the hints they used were really unclear and had not connection to the tasks or they were ordered wrong.
Supposed to be "scary" but the only "scary" thing was them banging on the door or trying to forcefully open the door like "someone trying to get in", maybe because it was my first ever escape room, but I would not recommend this one.
This room was quite a let down the puzzles were quite difficult and didn’t follow along in any sort of manner - the scare factor was very poor with us being asked how intense we would like the game we replied very this response was banging on the door once or twice.
there was a smell puzzle where they all smelt the same
It was fun, but one part of the game needed a tech upgrade. This made the end feel less rewarding and definitive.
