Enigma Rooms Wakefield: GRIMM – Up North

Our second time playing one of Enigma’s rooms. Once again a great experience. Such a beautiful room. They’ve put a lot of time and effort into this room and it’s visually amazing. Great mix of puzzles. Lots of things we haven’t seen before. Great hosting. Highly recommended room. 

This is a must do room, 100% recommend. 

This was fabulous! Ideal for 4 players we thought. Really good fun and immersive. Host Ava was fab! 

We've marked this as very difficult as I would imagine it's tricky to complete all the second part of the game in the time if you're not doing it for a second time, not because of the complexity of the puzzles.

So - the game follows two parts - the first (linear part) which is to complete the main story line and the remaining part which is to obtain tokens to indicate that you've "fixed" a minor story line. The first part contains no padlocks, the second part is mainly padlocks, so it's easy to differentiate the two parts.

The first part of this would suit a team of four as two sets of two can work on independent parts of puzzles, but it can be solved with two even though some of the puzzles are extremely time consuming (and it seems like they are deliberately time consuming which is why we moved this down from a 4.5 and discussed to a 3.5 as it seems it's deliberate to get you to play again which, if you've travelled a long way, isn't going to happen).  

We took quite a long time on the first part, particularly the last puzzle of the last game so although we finished we didn't manage to complete it in time to get many of the happily ever afters, but the dressing of the sets and the room is very nicely done and is obviously one of the newer ones that we have played recently. 

Ava was an enthusiastic host who knew the puzzles well and paid attention to the room which was what we need from a GM! 

11/10 would absolutely recommend! No question one of the best games in the UK.

I wish I could add more tags to this game because it ticks so many boxes. Epic, story driven, family friendly, magical, intense, extremely clever and super friendly hosting. The main game and story line had great puzzles that followed a fairly linear path. But after the main story is over, there is a puzzle free for all. It makes it to where the entire 75 minutes is taken up.

I saw someone on here say that the bonus puzzles are just a money grab, but that is absolute nonsense. If anything, it is just a way to maximise your time in the room and give you more value for your money. Don’t walk, run!

A beautiful curated path - from one beautiful set to another. Very immersive and child like. Very pleasing to the eye and the puzzles are very different too. Chaos ensues at the end and we had no idea the amount of new puzzles would surface. We love to take our time and that didn’t work so well for us in the end. Would highly recommend and if competitive - get solving quick. 

We were big fans of the format of this game which was like nothing we had encountered before. The first hour of the game is a standard linear game and then the final fifteen minutes is a frantic collection type game with lots of puzzles to solve. Our favourite style of room is a non-linear, collection type game where you are frantically running around for the whole hour and therefore the final fifteen minutes in particular was right up our street. The quality of the décor was very high and deserves a special shout out and there were some very original puzzles.  Our host was super friendly. We made a special journey to Wakefield for the weekend to do a number of games there as we had read good things about them. It’s safe to say this one didn’t disappoint. We would highly recommend. It’s hard to recommend what team size would be best as for the first hour two players was fine but then for the final fifteen minutes we would have benefitted from an additional two player.
