Mystery Singapore: The Lost Merlion

In the early 19th century, an ancient statue of a mythical creature, with a lion's head

and the body of a fish,

was found by a Hokkien monk

on the old coastline of Singapore.

It was believed to have magical powers

that could defeat enemies

and bring health and prosperity.

But

if it would fall in the wrong hands,

could bring along massive destruction.
Being afraid of those dangerous powers,

the monk hid the statue in a secret place and established THE ORDER OF THE MERLION.

On his death bed he said:

"A day will come,

in the 18th Year of the Tiger,

when the danger is gone.

Than we can bring the statue

back to the temple

to assure Singapore's strength."

The 18th year of the tiger has come.
