Really loved this game - mainly paper-based puzzles and a couple of videos and websites to extend the interactivity - very clever use of "magic" to drive some of the progress, and a nice element of having to deduce facts to complete the game. All in all a lot of effort has gone into this and we only found ourselves stuck a couple of times, but didn't need any hints, we just re-read the information and it became clear. The only negative was we weren't sure why we asked to do something with one of the physical props because we didn't need to, but then maybe we missed something?! Really enjoyed it anyway and would be a great family game - although we played as a couple.

The puzzles were not too difficult for enthusiasts (took us about 50 minutes or so to complete) but I was more drawn to the narrative. I'm a big fan of Harry Potter and anything that has to do with magic or myths. So this was right up my alley. I really felt the production value for the price. The combination of entertaining videos, realistic websites, and enchanting storyline made this game a very pleasurable experience. I can't wait to see what other games Breakout Unboxed will be coming out in the near future.
The Wizard’s Apprentice is a simply MAGICAL play at home game perfect for families, aspiring witches and wizards, or pretty much everyone growing bored with lockdown and looking for something more interesting to do *cough cough* it’s me. Despite the fact I massively messed up the order of the puzzles (more on this later), the game still managed to be a complete delight, packed with “aha!” puzzles and, dare I say it, real magic?
This would be an ideal game to introduce some younger players into the hobby. The narrative and puzzles seemed perfectly geared towards that. But it won't be much of a challenge for seasoned enthusiasts.
f you’re living in the U.K., then it’s definitely worth it’s relatively cheap price and will provide you with a fun two hours of play. If you’re in the U.S. or elsewhere in the world, the costs of importing make it a harder recommend. You’ll have a fun time with it, but the game isn’t a must-play.
