I’ve played a couple of games by Escape Room: The Game now and unfortunately they just don’t make much sense. I love the idea that they try to get across, but sometimes the chrono decoder just doesn’t work, and the puzzles do not flow at all. If I’m honest it’s very frustrating.

Well the puzzle are fine, but the chrono decoder is somewhat unreliable

The main gimmick of Escape Room: The Game is the "Chrono Decoder" - a piece of plastic-y electronic tat that's meant to detect and validate your solutions to the puzzles. It doesn't work, and instead seems to randomly respond to your input with either a "congratulations" beep or a (slightly different) "you failed" beep, based entirely on its own whim. This renders the entire game a frustrating, unplayable mess.

A decent Spin Master game. Again, paper/cardboard, uses the same electronic timer dohickey. The puzzles in this game (Virus) are fair.

Recommend 2-4p max. Can be reset; printable downloads are available for the bits you're likely to have written on or otherwise damaged.

See the [[Prison Break]] review for general comments about the Escape Room The Game bundle - this scenario is only available as part of the set.
Virus has a laboratory find-the-antidote plot, another staple theme for escape games. The background story doesn't entirely stand up to inspection, but the three game stages follow a clear narrative progression, and the link from part two to part three is particularly clever.

Spin Master’s first entry into the Escape Room home game market is an ambitious one, packing not one but four different, completely unique full length games inside the box. Unfortunately this proved to be an exercise in quantity over quality.
A fun and interactive game that offers multiple unique escape room experiences
Virus was our introduction to the world of Escape Room The Game. We felt is was a solid game and surpasses many of the other play at home games out there. The set, sold on Amazon for about £30 means an average of £10 a game which is great value for money. We'd certainly put these up there with the Unlock games and ahead of any Exit Games sets.
