My first Christmas themed escape room. Brilliant hosts and a very immersive game. Very padlock centric but lots of good puzzles to solve them

We normally crash and burn in Christmas games, but this one clicked more than normal, although we still did have our moments. This is a lovely, family friendly game, and perfect for getting you in the Christmas spirit (even if you play in November).

Logic Box: Santa and the Missing Pocket Watch

Overview

This was our second visit to Logic Box in a matter of months and this time it was to try their limited time Christmas Escape Room. Just off the M5 (ideal if you are stuck in a traffic jam) in an industrial estate in Somerset, there is plenty of signage and parking available. Don’t let the industrial exterior fool you, the reception area is large and warm with comfy chairs and sofas. You may even get a complementary sweet 🙂 We were warmly greeted by owner Tom who explained to us that Santa’s watch had gone missing and we had to save Christmas (no pressure then) and then we watched the health and safety video on the big screen. We were then told that we were the first team to try the new game which gave us an added buzz before we started. Tom also provided us with Christmas hats to wear during the game, obviously we accepted the offer!

Room Impression

As soon as we walked into the room, we felt festive!! Nicely decorated with obviously no signs of wear and tear since it was a brand new game. The room was nicely lit which meant we didn’t have to wait 5/10 minutes to let our eyes adjust to the room, which sometimes can be a bit frustrating. The screen then started up in front of us to explain the rest of our mission and the clock started.

Having done an escape room at Logic Box before, we fully expected there to be plenty of things in the room to ‘distract’ us and get us thinking and after a slow start we soon got into our flow. The room is spacious and is on one level throughout.

Puzzles

The Christmas room had one main mission, which as previously mentioned was to find Santa’s watch. Despite there being only one main mission there were a variety of puzzles; searching, wordplay, translations, codes and searching. Most of the puzzles gave you a combination for padlocks, in which there were a few. I know this can annoy some people but with 4 of us in the room, we didn’t find it an issue at all running around trying the different combinations in the different padlocks.

There was plenty to do at any one time where we often split up into pairs to work out different parts of the game. Even though the room has been aimed at families due to the theme, the puzzles still got us thinking and we had to ask for a little bit of direction a couple of times.

Games Master Clues

When we did need a little bit of direction, there was a nice addition of a talking button system on the main console. This made a nice change from the standard walkie talkie system adopted by most. We were given hints when asked but not so obvious that it stopped us thinking and not overly cryptic either, which was welcomed.

The TV on the main console had the timer countdown so we knew how much time we had throughout. We got out with 18 minutes left to spare but did not leave the room feeling short changed.

Round Up

This is the second game we have completed at Logic Box (previously completed The Portland Heist) and it was a nice seasonal experience that both work parties and families will love. The design and flow of the game was something we all really enjoyed and we definitely be back to complete Loke Lake when it’s put back after Christmas.

Do keep an eye out on Logic Box, they have a lot of space for many more rooms and after speaking to Tom, it is clear he has some big plans for the space!
